Askin' Andy

Q:How do I keep my cat from climbing on my fake christmas tree?

A:This is a problem I've dealt with myself. First, raise the base of it off the ground (I have mine in a planter on a small stool). When they don't have immediate tactile access to it, they seem to lose interest.

However, if they don't lose interest, resort to the squirt gun (or a new distraction: my cats are currently in a gangland battle over a small vinyl cat house). If operant conditioning can keep most of society acting like good cats, it can do the same for actual cats.

A fun alternative is to get a cat-friendly fake tree with a strong base and encourage their climbing. I may do this next year, as watching cats climb anything is amusing.

Name That Cat!

The cat is outdoors without a collar, so she may be a stray. The wound on her head lends to that theory. But at least it's a nice neighborhood. Let's call her Zoe. -Andy Kachel

Talkin' About This Cat

He was probably rolling around scratching his back on the concrete until someone walked up and got in his face with a camera. Or he was cleaning his chest. Pretty cat though. -Andy Kachel
